We started at the roots...
Our family loves good food. And we believe the less you mess with it, the better it is. For over 15 years, we have been growing fruits, nuts, & veggies in our own back yard. And we grow them naturally-- no pesticides, no herbicides. Just a lot of weed-pickin' elbow grease and sound growth practices -- and the blessing of the "black gold" earth of our central Illinois home. |
...sprouted a bakery...
RegCakes sprouted forth in 2015 -- a marriage of Regina's childhood-up love of "caking" and her husband's love of gardening. Because Regina cannot eat gluten, they made it their business not only to feature homegrown produce in all of their products, but to establish a 100% gluten-free operation -- not only to serve gluten-free eaters, but to serve everyone! ...and branched out to serve our community.
RegCakes began in 2015 as a registered Cottage Food Operation, which allowed us to work from our home-based kitchen, nestled in the corn fields near Pesotum. Customers came from Champaign county, out of state, and even Canada! In order to be able to serve more folks and produce more good stuff, we upgraded to a commercial, retail operation in 2021. |
...cultivated great products...
We develop our recipes from scratch and re-work them until they meet our high standards for structure, texture, flavor, and shelf life, relying on ratio and chemistry of quality ingredients-- not on unnecessary additives. You may find our homegrown berries, fruits, veggies, and nuts in some of our products, but the key to almost all of them is our signature sweet potatoes: We grow some & buy some. They add natural flavor, reduce refined sugars & starches, and maintain moisture & texture over time in our cakes, cinnamon rolls, and more-- and you'll never even know they are there. Beyond that, we use high-quality grapeseed oil, only 100% real vanilla, hand-cracked Midwest eggs, Ghirardelli cocoa, high-quality chocolates, and lots of other good stuff. |
A Family Affair
RegCakes began as a joint effort of our family of 6: Regina is a central Illinois native, graduate of the University of Illinois, and self-taught cake artist, hooked on tinkering with flavors and making dessert beautiful since she was a very young girl. Unable to eat gluten, she has learned to make all her favorite baked goods even better without it. But Regina knows RegCakes could not happen without the rest of the family: Aside from his day job, her husband Adam cultivates a couple acres full of fruits, nuts, and vegetables in addition to contributing to bakery affairs as handy-man, accountant, and more. Their four fabulous kids have become intimately acquainted with the toil and joy of gardening, dishwashing, baking, and taste-testing. Today, the RegCakes family team has grown to include many fabulous employees. We are so grateful for the opportunity to serve our community as its first dedicated-gluten-free walk-in bakery! |
